MAC’s Cute Overload

Posted by Tayyaba - -

Over the past few years, the idea of seasonal makeup has been thrown out the window. Peter Philips famously put creamy jade green nail polish on Chanel’s Fall 2009 runway, and François Nars likewise bucked convention by showing a deep burgundy lip for Spring at Marc Jacobs last season. If you ask us, though, there’s nothing like pastels to properly usher in the warmer
months, and that hasn’t been lost on MAC. Its new Quite Cute collection, which officially launches this week, is filled with the kind of candy-coated hues you expect from beauty brands for spring and features three Easter egg shades of nail lacquer, five similarly coordinated lipsticks in a range of finishes, four new Plushglass glosses, three lip pencils, an eye shadow quad, and three Mineralize Blushes with different shimmer shadows baked into the center in the shape of a heart (which is, in fact, quite cute). However, perusing the stash that crossed our desk this morning, it wasn’t the pale lavender, light pinks, or blue mint offerings that spoke to us, but a very wearable assortment of nudes. Standouts include MAC Lip Pencil in Naked, its Lipstick in Playing Koi, its Plushglass in Bubble Tea, and its Mineralize Blush in Miss Behave, a peach powder with an iridescent aqua center for highlighting on the top of cheekbones and anywhere else you want a pop of luminescent light. Wearing a nude lip is sadly not an option for us (we are blessed/cursed with a prominently pigmented mouth) but if it were, we’d be adding gloss to a hefty helping of that liner right now.
